Algeria announced on Monday the beginning of the evacuation of its diplomatic personnel and citizens from Sudan amid ongoing violence in the country.
An emergency team has been set up to follow up the evacuation operation of diplomatic staff and Algerian nationals wishing to return home, the Algerian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry called on Algerians who are still in Sudan to remain indoors and keep in touch with the Algerian Embassy in Khartoum for updated information about the situation there.
Deadly clashes that broke out between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces on April 15 have killed at least 424 people and injured at least 3,730 others as of Saturday, according to Sudan’s health ministry.
