Morocco’s Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch has agreed to implement an educational programme aimed at increasing the number of enrolments and graduates in digital fields in Moroccan public universities. This measure has been approved in accordance with the Royal High Guidelines that call for taking advantage of the digital transformation the world is undergoing, as reported by Le Matin.
The agreement aims to increase the number of graduates in the digital sectors annually from around 8,000 today to 22,500 by 2027.
The agreement was signed by Abdellatif Miraoui, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation; Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance, in charge of the Budget; and Ghita Mezzour, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, in the presence of Nadia Fettah, Minister of Economy and Finance.
According to the Moroccan media, the new digital training courses will be available in 12 universities in the different regions of the Kingdom and include 144 new sectors in data analysis, digital technologies, cybersecurity, software development, metadata, artificial intelligence, etc.
In addition, this measure seeks to design and implement new digital university training offers in all Moroccan public universities, adapting to the needs of the labour market and the expectations of national and foreign investors.
In this regard, Akhannouch stressed the importance of developing digital skills and talents in the North African country as a driver of the digital transition and the economy. He also pointed out that the establishment of a sufficient number of graduates in digital specialties will accelerate the digital transition and meet the expectations of domestic and foreign investors.
He also insisted on the need to ensure the strengthening and quality of training, relying on scientific research and innovation to ensure the desired match between employment and the improvement of human capital, all in accordance with the Royal High Guidelines.
Through this agreement, digital training sessions will also be organised in public universities, in line with innovations in the technological landscape and in order to strengthen the diversification of the national economy and contribute to making Morocco a preferred destination for investors in the digital and IT sector.
