Brahim Diaz Facing Dual Dilemma Over Morocco Shift, Real Madrid Place

Brahim Diaz is said to be close to making a major decision regarding his international allegiance. As the Real Madrid player grows tired of waiting for a call-up to the Spanish national team, Morocco, the homeland of his mother, is emerging as a compelling alternative option.

Despite youth national team appearances, Diaz’s allegiance to Spain remains untested at the senior level.

Recent reports from the sports news website AS indicate that the talented player is leaning towards representing Morocco, a decision seemingly confirmed by the omission of his name from the call-up list for the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches by Morocco’s coach, Walid Regragui.

This potential shift in Diaz’s international loyalties raises questions about the timing of his integration into the Moroccan national team, especially considering the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations scheduled from January 13 to February 11 next year.

When asked whether he is planning to soon call up the Real Madrid player to his squad for AFCON or World Cup qualifiers, Regragui expressed respect for the player but insisted that Morocco’s national team cannot be a plan B for players.

“Brahim is a player who has interested us for some time. We follow him and will continue to do so, but he must know that if he wants to join our group he will have to be convinced” he said, acknowledging that if Diaz’s shift to Morocco is “going to happen, it will happen.”

Regragui’s candid words dispel any notion that Diaz’s potential shift to Morocco is merely a result of his failure to make it to the Spain squad.

Indeed, the Moroccan coach emphasized that only he will consider selecting Diaz once he expresses genuine commitment and motivation to play for Morocco. “I only want players with me who are 100% motivated and who don’t have other thoughts in their heads,” he said.

Diaz’s recent standout performance against Braga in the European Champions League, where he started for Real Madrid, scored a goal, and displayed remarkable activity in Madrid’s attack, adds another layer to this narrative. Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti acknowledged that the player deserves more playing time, hinting at an increased role in upcoming matches.

As the saga unfolds, Brahim Diaz finds himself at a crossroads not only in his international career but also in defining his place within the star-studded Real Madrid team. The allure of representing Morocco and the promise of an expanded role at Real Madrid present Diaz with choices that extend far beyond the boundaries of the football pitch.
