The Libyan Illegal Immigration Control Department on Monday deported a group of illegal Chadian migrants to their home country.
The illegal migrants were arrested in the south of the capital Tripoli on Sunday, as they were preparing to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe, said the department.
The department noted the deportation of the migrants was carried out in coordination with the Chadian embassy in Tripoli, adding that more migrant expulsions will take place in the near future.
Because of the insecurity and chaos in the country since the fall of late leader Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011, many migrants, mostly Africans, choose to cross the Mediterranean Sea to European shores from Libya.
